I knew I wouldn't be able to blog weekly -- I just knew it...ha. Ah, well. Maybe my weekly blog idea should turn into a monthly blog idea. Seems more realistic these days.
Well, Chapman is a smiley, inquisitive, fun little 4 month old these days. It's amazing to me how quickly he's hitting all of the marks that folks look for in babies as they grow. He had great head control from a really young age, and has super strong legs it seems -- he wants to stand all the time. He's been that way for a month or two now. Of course, we have to hold onto him (he definitely isn't standing on his own yet), but those little legs are so strong! He is rolling from back to front and front to back, and pushes up onto his elbows and knees a bit...perhaps crawling is nearer in our future than I thought it was. He is eating and growing well -- he is still in the 95th percentile for height (tall boy) at 26 inches, and the 75th percentile for weight at just over 15 pounds.
The biggest challenge at the moment is getting him to nap during the day. We were on a bit of a schedule for a few weeks there. But then...rolling began. *shudder* There is no way to communicate appropriately the extent to which this new skill has wrecked our child's sleep and schedule. He never was a great napper throughout the day, but he would take one solid, long, 2 hour nap in the morning generally, and then do a couple of little 20 or 30 minute naps in the afternoon and evening. Well, now it would seem that every time I put him down for a nap, he rolls onto his belly either in his sleep or as he wakes up a bit. It wakes him up completely. I've tried letting him cry it out to see if he might go back to sleep -- never has he managed to put himself back to sleep. I spent 2 hours today just TRYING to get him to take a nap -- stubbornly trying to calm him down and get him back to sleep. It didn't work. So, what used to be his one, long, good nap has turned into another 20 or 30 minute nap. I am praying that something changes soon in this pattern because he is over-tired by late afternoon with no good naps during the day, and then it all just gets ugly and messy, with a melting-down baby boy. His night time sleep has still been pretty good ( probably because he is so worn out from a day with no good naps), so I'm thankful for that. But, oh my -- this is a bit of a difficult phase we are in.

Hang in there, Suzy. It does get better. We went through the same thing with Samuel and he eventually figured out how to sleep on his tummy. It just seemed at the time that he never would. We love seeing pics of Chapman on Facebook. Miss you guys!
