I'm sitting here drinking the first cup of coffee that I (Suzy) have had in days. For those of you who know me well, you know that a day without coffee is an incomplete (and probably not very energetic) day for me. The reason for said lack of coffee is a painful little infection that worked its way into my body early this weekend. Friday morning, I woke up with terrible pain in my abdomen and stomach. I was fine when I went to bed Thursday night, but by Friday morning I was probably experiencing the worst physical pain I had ever experienced. We tried to get an appt. with my doctor, but he was booked up for the day. So, Drew (who, thankfully, had the day off and could help take care of me) drove me down to the emergency room at the hospital on Ft. Carson. They checked me out, ran some tests, figured out what as wrong, and determined that it was an infection that could be treated with antibiotics, to kill the infection, and muscle relaxers, to help the pain go away until the antibiotics had done their job. I was really relieved that it seemed to be a relatively quick and easy fix. When you're in a lot of pain, for no easily-identifiable reason, you do start wondering if it is something more serious. So, as I said before, I was relieved to hear all I needed was some medicine. But, there was a catch. I read the labels on the medicine. One of them said I wasn't supposed to eat or drink dairy while on that medication. And let me tell you -- avoiding dairy is much, much harder than I thought it would be. I never realized that cheese is a staple in my diet until this weekend. And I also was not supposed to drink caffeinated beverages (like coffee). *siiigh* No dairy AND no coffee?!? So, long story short, I learned something about myself this weekend; I really enjoy God's great gift of dairy and coffee to this world. And now that I am basically off of the medication, I am enjoying cheesy food and black coffee once again.
Once I was feeling better (by Saturday nightish), we tried to pack everything we wanted to do and accomplish in a 4-day weekend into 2 days. Two of the highlights this weekend were 1) driving west into the mountains to see what was left of the pretty leaves changing color (a lot of the trees had already lost their leaves); I'll post a couple of pictures from that here. And 2) Sunday night, we went to see Bill Cosby perform live. I grew up loving the Cosby Show, and it was so great just to sit in a room with Bill Cosby and listen to him tell stories and jokes.
Well, that's the update from here. We hope you have a spectacular week! Thanks for dropping by to read about our only sometimes interesting lives.
